Revised Proposal to Reshape the Department
The second phase of consultation on the proposal to restructure the Department of Education & Training closed on November 4. The Board of Management is now considering the feedback received to assist in finalising the structure for implementation. It is anticipated that the final structure, together with an implementation timetable, will be released before the end of November.

End of Year Celebration Kit
An End of year celebration kit has been distributed to all NSW Government secondary schools to increase young people's knowledge and awareness of the issues relating to end of year activities.

Aboriginal Education Review - 2003
The Hon. Dr Refshauge, Minister for Education and Training and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs has announced a review of the scope and effectiveness of the New South Wales Department of Education and Training's Aboriginal Education policies and programs. The review has been developed in consultation with the NSW Aboriginal Education Consultative Group (AECG) and has the endorsement of the New South Wales Teachers Federation.

A new web portal has been developed to assist users to more easily find the information and services relating to vocational education and training in NSW. It offers one entry point to the diverse range of services for clients in the vocational education and training and adult and community education sectors.

Update: Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS)
The NSW Director-General of Education, Jan McClelland, issued an official memorandum on 24 April 2003 to all schools and TAFE institutes on Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The memorandum is based on advice from the NSW Health Department and outlines the proper procedures for school staff to follow in relation to SARS.

Accelerated Teacher Training Programs
The accelerated teacher training program, an 18 month teacher training program, targets people with related qualifications, industry knowledge and expertise who would make excellent teachers in the areas of mathematics, science or technology, specialising in either industrial arts, food technology, computing studies or agriculture.
